Located on the south east coast of Scotland in the county of Berwickshire, the village of St. Abbs is a community with a rich heritage and a spectacular location.
The sea around St. Abbs with its crystal clear water is a well-known scuba diving area. The adjacent headland with its towering cliffs is a noted National Trust Nature Reserve boasting a wide variety of bird life. The glorious sandy beach at Coldingham Bay now established as a popular surfing location lies five minutes walk along the cliffs.
The village was founded as a fishing community and its success has in the past, but less today, been dependent on that industry. Always popular with visitors coming to enjoy the sea, coastal views and quieter pace of life. The villages has in the last few decades experianced a decline in its population. The unique location and atmosphere of the village has sadly resulted in nearly half the houses becoming second homes, to be occupied for a few weeks of each year.
There are certainly fewer people living in the village all year round, but the village has managed to retain a strong and distinct sense of community. This website has been created to inform people about the village and support those organisations that are based in and around it.
